Some people experience weakness in a certain area of their body, such as the arms or legs. Others may experience full-body weakness, which is often a result of a bacterial or viral infection such influenza or hepatitis.
Common cause of muscles weakness:
Lack of muscle fitness- one of the most common causes of muscles weakness. It may occur as a result of an inactive lifestyle.
Ageing- as we age, our muscles tend to lose strength and bulk and they become weaker. Exercising and physical therapy is beneficial because it increases muscle power and strength with a careful and safe exercise routine.
Infections- a common cause of temporary muscle fatigue, which is usually from muscle inflammation.
Pregnancy- during and after pregnancy, high levels of steroids in the blood with a tendency to be lacking in iron, can cause a feeling of muscle tiredness. This is completely normal in pregnancy and whilst some exercise is still sensible, being pregnant you need to be particularly careful when exercising.
Persistent (chronic) Diseases:
Diabetes- this can cause weakness and loss of fitness. People with diabetes also have an increase in tendency to narrowing of the arteries.
Heart disease- particularly heart failure, this can cause easy tiring of the muscles through a reductions in blood supply at time of high demand.
Chronic Lung Disease- lung conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease cause a reduction in the ability of the body to take in oxygen.
Anaemia- this is a shortage of red blood cells. Anaemia often starts quite slowly, so that significant muscles tiredness and breathlessness develop before the condition is diagnosed.
Depression- general weariness and feeling of generalised tiredness can also be caused by depression.
