National Physical Therapy Month: How to stay healthy and safe
Well it’s that time of the year again it’s October which means, it’s National Physical Therapy Month. Here at United Rehab Physical Therapy we are here to provide support to our current patients and to answer any questions that our new patients have.
What is National Physical Therapy Month?
National Physical Therapy Month takes place in the month of October and is used to recognize the efforts physical therapists use to transform society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience. This year the APTA (American Physical Therapists Association), is focusing on raising awareness about the ongoing opioid problem that is plaguing the country and show individuals that physical therapy is a safer, healthier alternative.
Here at United Rehab Physical Therapy there are many programs that are offered and our therapists work with and create specialized treatment plans that cater to a patient’s needs. During Physical Therapy Month, one of our programs we are going to be focusing on is fall prevention. We have designed a special program called Safe Steps Prevention Program and this program was created based off the evidence from the CDC, that states that one in every 3 seniors over the age of 65 and over, will fall at any given time during the year. One of the services we offer under this program is a free fall risk screening. So, if you are falling more than usual and having problems maintaining your balance please feel free to come into our office for a free screening and our therapists will work with you to manage and decrease your risk of serious injury. If you are unable to come to the office for a visit, we are more than happy to come to your home for a visit and we will also provide you with information about how to reduce the risk of falls at home.
Another one of programs that we offer at United Rehab Physical Therapy is our Game Ready treatment program. Our Game Ready unit also know as ACCEL (Active Compression & Cold Exchange Loop), is used to increase blood flow and decrease pain and swelling. By providing that relief our patients are more eager to participate in their treatment. This form of treatment also goes along with the APTA goal of not relying on medications for pain management.
These are only some of the services we offer at United Rehab Physical Therapy. If you have any questions or wish to make an appointment feel free to call us and come into the office.
